In the west end of the city I used to live in, on Mother's Day, a woman broke into the apartment of a young mother, emptied a can of bear mace into her face and stole her 8-day old baby.
The poor young mother stumbled outside screaming that her baby had just been kidnapped...her eyes were swollen shut. The neighbours phoned police, then chased and caught her themselves, held her until police arrived and got the baby to the paramedics for examining (he was unharmed).
Just...WOW. BLESS those people for taking action like they did. I can't even think about what might've happened if they were the sorts to all film it happening and do nothing to help. Those people...now that's what a hero is. That's not being in the right place at the right time, that's springing into action like you're John freakin' McClane.
Still shaking. :\
Sidenote: The kidnapper (age 32) was known to the victim via...Facebook. Kidnapper lady would send messages to new moms about a 'prize they'd won' and I guess used that a guise to get addresses.

Thank heavens Mom and baby are okay. It's unfathomable.
