The People Under the Stairs (1991)

Oh man...I can't believe I waited so long to rewatch this! It haunted me for so long and I remembered it being so serious--it's NOT! It's actually defined as a comedy horror on IMDB and it really was hilarious in parts. The most ridiculous part of it? THE COUPLE IS BIG ED AND NADINE FROM TWIN PEAKS! Why?! I kept getting so distracted by that *Lol*. Even the 'stair people' weren't scary this time around, and 'Roach' was even cute in a ratlike kind of way! His giggle killed me every time. xD

Even though it wasn't really serious in tone it did have a racial theme to it, once again focused on the ghettos and systemic racism... Interesting. I'm glad we watched this one so close to Candyman (1992) because they both feature a very similar scene at the end where the whole entire ghetto joins together for a common cause and produces a really powerful scene.

It got a 6/10 on IMDB, and I think that's fair! It's fun and has some great jump scares but the story was only so-so. Still it's a cult classic and I'm glad we've got it.
